A 51-year-old man is now in custody for trying to rob a downtown Daytona Beach bank on Monday afternoon (September 30th).

Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) officers were dispatched to the SunTrust Bank (200 South Palmetto Avenue) around 2 o'clock after receiving a panic alarm from the business. Officers were already in the area and arrived at the bank shortly after being dispatched.

Bank employees stated that the subject (pictured) - since identified as Robert Kent Tuck - entered the bank through the main entrance and proceeded to wait in line for a teller. When it was his turn, the subject approached the teller and passed a hand written note to the teller demanding money and implying that he had a firearm.

The subject wanted a certain denomination of money only and threatened the teller when the teller said she only had smaller denominations than what was asked for. The subject didn’t want that and exited the bank the same way he entered, walking eastbound on Magnolia Avenue.

Kent continued to the rear of the public library on City Island, retrieved his awaiting bicycle and left the scene. A "Be On The Lookout" (BOLO) and description of the subject was given out to nearby officers

Moments later, officers who were on an unrelated domestic battery call and had just made an arrest for that incident overheard the BOLO and observed Kent riding by on his bicycle. The officers detained him.

No money was taken and no bank employees, customers, officers or the subject were injured during this incident.

Kent did not cooperate when questioned by police. He's currently in custody at the Volusia County Branch Jail.
