Economic Development

Our mission is to encourage economic development in Daytona Beach by retaining and facilitating the expansion of existing businesses, attracting new viable business to the area, fostering the development of business complementary business clusters. We shall remain mindful of the community vision while recognizing the importance of cooperating with area, county, regional and statewide efforts to bring jobs to this area as they would positively impact business growth for the City.

Each business opportunity, regardless of its inclusion in the listing below, will be evaluated on its own merit regarding whether it is a good “fit” the City has targeted certain industries including: telecommunications, environmentally clean manufacturing, information technology, medical products, marine production and supplies, sports related events, for example, golf, tennis, boating, swimming, boating, football, baseball, softball, aviation, and automotive related, for example, motorsports, as well as, cultural tourism.

To accomplish this mission, we have outlined six specific duties:
  1.  Evaluate the business viability - related research regarding the viability (“fit”) for the community; legal, financial, and reasonable capacity to carry out its proposed plans; complementary business cluster potential; consistency with applicable zoning and other requirements;
  2. Evaluate the business’ economic impact and potential to the City, County, region, state;
  3. Assess the effect of its short-term and long-term business strategies as part of an industry-specific strategic plan and vision plan to promote retention, development, and expansion of business and industry in the area;
  4. Act as a liaison with other local, regional, state and federal entities with related economic, educational, defense and/or other responsibilities to support receipt of incentives marketing of the area's business capabilities;
  5. Assess what needs to be done to ensure the business’s success and assist where possible with connections to information and/or resources.
  6. Be responsible for the promotion and development businesses in the area.
