MLK Road Project
Safety and aesthetic improvements are slated to begin on .3-mile stretch of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. in Daytona Beach from Orange Ave. to International Speedway Blvd.

The $2.67 million project will completely reconstruct the road’s surface, update underground utilities, widen sidewalks, install decorative lighting features and landscaping and add on-street parking on the east side of the roadway.

Project phases

PHASE 1: Intersection of Magnolia AvenueMLK Phase 1.jpg
Construction will begin in early August 2019 at the Magnolia Avenue intersection. This location was selected as the starting point because the underground pipes are deepest in that area.

The intersection will be completely closed north/south and east/west. Local traffic will be permitted from Orange Ave. north to the work zone and from ISB south to the work zone.

All through traffic will be routed around the area via Orange Ave., US 1, ISB and Lockhart St.  Pedestrian access will be maintained to the businesses within the work zone. Phase 1 is expected to take less than one month.

PHASE 2: Orange Avenue to Magnolia Avenue map of phase two of project

The section from Orange Ave. to Magnolia will be the next phase and work is expected to take about three months.

Local access for motorists is expected; however, access may be limited by some points by construction activity. In this case, access will be re-routed. Safe and ADA compliant pedestrian access will be maintained.

PHASE 3: International Speedway Blvd. to Magnolia Avenuemap of phase 3 area
Similar to Phase 2, this section is expected to take three months and access for local traffic is anticipated throughout the duration unless construction activity creates unsafe driving conditions.
