Warning for Pet Owners

Leaving Your Pet in a Parked Car Can Be a Deadly Mistake

DID YOU KNOW?

On an average summer day, the temperature can reach a boiling 160° inside a car parked in the sun.

Pets don't sweat like people do; they cool themselves through their lungs by panting. When air becomes too hot, brain damage and eventual death result.

If you must take your pet along in the car have another person stay with your pet while you are gone. Ask that person to take the animal for a walk or rest in the shade. Provide fresh, cool water to drink.

Act IMMEDIATELY  if you see an animal enclosed in a car on a summer day. Call the police or humane organization for help.  A pet's heart and lungs can be permanently damaged by excessive heat and humidity. Although you can't see this damage, it is serious.
