Commissioner Rick Shiver
Native Floridian.
Daytona Beach resident since 1974.
25 year Daytona Beach fire department career, retired in 1999.
Active in Zone 1 Home Owners Association and neighborhood watch.
Sitting on my porch, listening to the ocean, barbecuing while watching the space shuttle fly up from the south, I ask myself….”where else would I want to live?” Daytona Beach is on the edge of major changes. It is our responsibility as citizens to stay in front of these changes, not react to them. Though we are not the sleepy ocean side village we once were, we can be a city of charm and family fun, while being a dynamic city. My hope is that we soon change the way our government works. Community solutions should come from the community, not government. Government should be a facilitator of solutions and our community should be the problem solvers. When we finally make this change, government becomes a more friendly place and we find our true leadership for our future within our city.
