Requirements

Candidates must be US citizens between the ages of 19 and 65 (applicant must be 19 before state certification to work as a Police Officer will be granted). You must have a High School diploma or acceptable equivalency diploma, (USAFI is not accepted). Corrected visual acuity at least 20/20 in one eye and 20/40 in the other. You must have a valid Florida driver’s license and an acceptable driving record for employment.

Candidates must possess a current valid Florida Law Enforcement Certification/Completion of the Minimum Standards (Police Academy /Rookie School) as set forth by the Florida Police Standards Council, as well as complete and pass the "Florida Officers Certification Examination" to be employed. Certificates of completion may be obtained through most Florida community colleges (Florida State Certification Test). The nearest class is held at Daytona State College (386) 506-3450. Out of State officers who feel they may be eligible to take the two week equivalency course should contact the Brevard Testing Center (321) 433-5642.

Parts to the examination:

  1. Psychological Exam
  2. Polygraph Exam
  3. Interview: Candidates who are being considered are interviewed by an Employee Review Board when openings occur.
  4. Medical examination: Candidates are given a thorough physical examination upon acceptance which must be passed, to assure employment.
  5. Background and Fingerprint Check
  6. Physical Abilities Test

Military: No service time is required; however if a veteran, you must have received other then a Dishonorable or Undesirable Discharge.

Police Record: Absence of convictions of felonies, or misdemeanors involving moral turpitude.
