The Daytona Beach police department has unveiled another way of sharing crime data with the public.

Crime Map"This new web-based application is the next generation of transparency for our department. We wanted to provide an easier way to get crime information in the hands of those who care about it most - our citizens.  All it  takes is a few clicks on a computer and citizens can get information down to their street, block or entire neighborhood," said police chief Mike Chitwood.

The free service is accessible from the department's website click here.

Users simply enter an address of interest (home, office, school, etc.) and click on "Get Report" to see criminal activity in a given area on an easy-to-navigate map.  Click on each icon for date, address, description and case number information.

Users are also able to sign-up for e-mail alerts for notification of crimes reported within a radius of a selected address. The system is also interfaced with FDLE to show addresses and information including pictures of registered sexual predators and offenders. The flexible program can produce reports by crime types and can even be sorted by city commission zone. To select which types of crimes are displayed by default, click on the "Crime Types" button. Currently major crimes are automatically selected, but additional reported activity, such as traffic and quality of life incidences, are available.
