Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT)

The Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T.) formerly known as the Special Response Team (S.R.T.), and S.W.E.T. (Search Warrant Entry Team) was formed in 1986 by four Officers. Since then, the team has grown to 19 members. The primary duties of the team are high-risk warrant service and counter narcotics operations. Most recently, the team has been utilized for barricaded subjects, active shooter incidents, special event deployment and dignitary protection details. The team has been involved in numerous joint operations with the Drug Enforcement Administration, United States Secret Service, Florida Department of Law Enforcement and local Law Enforcement agencies.


The team is equipped with a Tactical Response Vehicle (32 foot long utility truck) and the standard collection of Mp-5 machine guns, .223 rifles, .308 precision rifles, ballistic shields, 37mm launching rifles and less lethal equipment. Each team member is equipped with a Kevlar helmet, Cover Six entry vest, 3rd generation Glock pistols with lights, gloves, knee and elbow pads, fluid hydration systems and alpha numeric pagers.
