Bicycle Unit

The Daytona Beach Police Department uses police mountain bike patrols as a part of its community policing efforts.

The officers of the Bicycle Unit can be seen riding their mountain bikes on daily patrols as well as assisting with special events.

Why We Do It

Putting police officers on bicycles allows officers to get to some calls and locations quicker. It also provides easier and more personal interaction between citizens and officers.

Duties

The unit supplements the existing patrol force for proactive enforcement in areas where access is limited and for special city functions.

It offers a high (or low) profile presence as needed when dealing with the public or deterring criminal activity.
