Yesterday (November 7th), some of our detectives were called out to investigate an armed carjacking.
The victim in this case had met the suspect through a smartphone app and had arranged to sell his vehicle to the suspect through that app.
When the meeting took place, the suspect brought two other people with him. One of them had a gun and forced the victim out of the vehicle at gunpoint. All three then jumped into the victim's car and sped away.
We don't want something like this to happen to you. This is why we have two designated public meeting areas at our headquarters (129 Valor Boulevard) for people looking to buy and sell things, either online or through an app.

These areas are monitored by video 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Feel free to use them whenever you like.

You can also walk into the front lobby and ask for an officer any time.
Whether you use these areas or not, please be mindful of your safety when arranging to buy or sell items anonymously.
